Detroit’s Only International House

The Detroit International House was inspired by a house rehabilitation project in 2016. The founder of DIH purchased a home for $1300 from the Detroit Land Bank in February 2016. Many foreigners from all over the world came to help rehabilitate the house. The first helper was a young man from Japan named Ryosuke Morita. Others soon followed from Germany, France, the Dominican Republic, Brazil and Canada. The house was finally completed and certified with the Detroit Land Bank in the fall of 2016.

In 2017, DIH expanded to include the house two doors down from this house, and continued to house foreigners who were visiting Detroit.

In 2018, DIH continued its development with a new property in New York City.  This second location brought the organization’s values to two major metropolitan centers across America.

Detroit International House is a true home away from home for worldwide visitors, offering affordable housing in a vibrant international community, English language instruction, and volunteer opportunities.

Detroit International House is a 501 (c) (3) public charity.
